Excisional Biopsy
An excisional biopsy is typically used to take out a small lesion that’s easy to reach. During this biopsy, the doctor may remove the entire area in question instead of just a part. In addition to the tissue in question being removed, the doctor will typically remove some of the surrounding healthy tissue as well.
Percutaneous Biopsy
This type of biopsy is a procedure in which the doctor inserts a biopsy needle through your skin. There are two different types of percutaneous biopsies: fine needle and core needle. A fine needle biopsy works best for lesions that are easy to see and feel. A core needle biopsy provides more tissue than a fine needle biopsy.
