Postop Instructions

Wisdom teeth extraction is a serious surgical procedure. As a result, it is imperative that you carefully follow your oral surgeon’s post-operative instructions in order to minimize unnecessary pain and complications and maximize recovery.

Some specific post-op instructions include:

  • The gauze pad that is placed over the surgical area needs to be kept in place for 30 minutes. After this time, the gauze pad should be removed and discarded.
  • Avoid touching the wound area and vigorous mouth rinsing to avoid bleeding.
  • Take any pain medications prescribed by your oral surgeon as soon as you feel any discomfort.
  • Place ice packs on the side of your face where the oral surgery was performed to minimize swelling.
  • Restrict your activities the day of the extraction. You can resume normal activities as soon as you feel comfortable.
